All weekend at Star Wars Celebration Japan, the connection between the galaxy far, distant and its inspirational roots in Japanese media has been in all places. However maybe some of the joyful celebrations of that connection was tucked away among the many hustle and bustle of the present ground.
On the again facet of a particular anime and manga pavilion on the Celebration present ground, primarily devoted to shows of idea artwork and props from the primary two volumes of Star Wars Visions, an entire wall of artwork invited congoers to see a particular mashup gallery merging the worlds of Studio Ghibli and Star Wars.
That includes artwork from a bevy of expertise from throughout Lucasfilm divisions—spearheaded by, after all, none apart from noted Ghibli fan Dave Filoni himself—the gallery noticed characters and concepts from throughout Star Wars merge with iconic Ghibli movies and imagery, from Porco Rosso to Princess Mononoke, and even bearing on Lucasfilm’s precise official collaboration with the studio, Zen: Grogu and Dust Bunnies.
“Japan has at all times influenced my creativity. I grew up loving Tokusatsu, and was captivated by anime collection like Macross,” Filoni wrote in a message accompanying his personal artwork piece within the assortment, “Ahsokanoke”, depicting Ahsoka and Grogu in a Ghibli-esque type.
“After I noticed Miyazaki’s movie Princess Mononoke, it modified the best way I considered animation. I cherished all the pieces about that movie and it made a long-lasting impression on me. Once I went to create Ahsoka Tano, I knew I needed to imbue her with a little bit of San. So for this reason Ahsoka has two ‘wolf fangs’ on her cheeks, in homage to Miyazaki’s movie.”
